Speaker: Morten Frisch, Senior Partner, Morten Frisch Consulting (MFC).  Brattle Group.

The critical market issue faced by the international natural gas industry is: What can be done for the world to put its vast natural gas resources to better use and therefore improve gas security of supply and achieve a more optimum utilisation on a timely basis of the critical energy resource which natural gas reserves represent?

After outlining gas market imbalances in three gas exporting example areas, the Russian Federation, the Middle East and Western Australia, the presentation will address how the implementation of the fundamental concepts of market based price discovery and pricing, transparency, international cooperation and understanding in the global natural gas industry likely would improve natural gas chain optimisation and therefore natural gas’ availability and utilisation.

Mr Frisch has more than 30 years of international hands on experience in dealing with strategic, commercial and operational issues along the entire LNG as well as pipeline gas chains. His first involvement with the international LNG industry was in 1976 and he has since been involved in the original structuring and drafting of key contract clauses such as the price review and price re-opener clause now extensively used in sales and purchase agreements for pipeline gas in Continental Europe and Atlantic Basin LNG. He advises clients on gas pricing issues, commercial optimisation, risk mitigation strategies and methods, all for operations in rapidly changing gas market environments. He acts as a lead negotiator for clients, and as an expert witness in arbitrations and court cases, in relation to commercial and operational gas issues. Mr Frisch is a chartered engineer (sivil ingeniør) in his home country of Norway and an economist. He is a member of the SPE (since 1975), the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE) and the British Institute of Energy Economics (BIEE). He has degrees from The University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.
