A student club deeply grounded into MIT’s tradition of interdisciplinary work, the MIT Energy Club was founded in 2004 in order to create and integrated, well-educated MIT energy community across campus through events and initiatives focused on fact-based energy analysis.
The Club organizes about 100 events per year, ranging from community mixers to large conferences. They include the following:
The MIT Energy Club Lecture series is a standing series which offers engaging talks from prominent guest speakers in the energy world. Guests range from academics to regulators, from Fortune 500 executives to startup founders. Topics cover a variety of facets of the energy world, including renewable and traditional energy sources, distribution, pricing, efficiency and transportation. An insightful question and answer session follows each lecture. All members of the MIT Energy Club community from MIT and the local community are welcome to attend.
The Discussion Series was the MIT Energy Club’s first standing series and is still core to the Energy Club’s mission. The Discussion Series aims to bring together a cross-section of the MIT community to discuss advanced energy problems and topics in an informal on-campus setting. Energy Club Discussions are led by MIT Graduate Students.
The MIT Energy Club’s Energy 101 series is designed to give you working background knowledge about broad energy subjects, such as wind, solar, or electricity grids, so that you can fully engage in the higher-level Energy Club lectures and discussions. These informal presentations are taught by our peers: students working in the field who just love to share the big picture concepts. We’re also now making the presenations available online, and “archiving” the information as Fact Sheets. A relatively new addition to the MIT Energy Club, the Energy 101 series has been a rousing success!
The Tour series organized by the Energy Club provides members and affiliates with the opportunity to visit a variety of facilities related in some way to energy. These tours often overlap with the other activities provided by the club to help reinforce a particular speaker lecture or discussion topic. These tours are great ways to see and learn about energy-related projects/activities first-hand.
The MIT Energy Conference: The goal of the MIT Energy Conference is to bring together leaders in the fields of technology, policy, industry, and finance to develop solutions for the tremendous challenges present in today’s energy markets. The confluence of environmental and security concerns have created an opportunity for fundamental change in the way the world produces and consumes energy. The MIT Energy Conference will showcase promising technology and policy approaches that have the potential to achieve critical scale and make a significant impact on the global energy landscape.
The MIT Energy Night showcases the most exciting energy research, education and entrepreneurship in a casual setting. It is the club’s largest community event in the Fall, traditionally held at the MIT Museum.
The MIT Energy Finance Forum, features the most prominent actors of energy financing in an educational forum held in the Fall semester.
